More Madonna
More Madonna Madonna has become the first artist to officially endorse the secondary ticket market.
The singer has signed a deal with ticket reseller viagogo, who will control the sale of VIP packages and all premium tickets on the European leg of Madonna’s upcoming world tour.
It’s the first time that an artist has signed a partnership with a secondary ticketing company.
Eric Baker, CEO of viagogo, said the company were “delighted” to have partnered with the pop star.
The secondary ticket market has come under the spotlight over recent months following a report by The Culture, Media and Sport select committee.
MPs called for a code of conduct to be introduced against resellers.
Responding to the report last month, the Government said concert promoters and ticket resellers should instead work together on a voluntary code.
Although the Government refused to ban the secondary market, Culture Secretary Andy Burnham said it “doesn’t add anything to the cultural life of the country”.
Tickets for Madonna’s world tour are due to go on sale next week.
The singer will play two shows in the United Kingdom – in London and Cardiff.
