Fans Fight As Pete Doherty Plays First Gig Since Prison

Singer is mobbed by fans...

Fights broke out amongst members of the audience tonight (May 13th) as Babyshambles played their first gig since frontman Pete Doherty was freed from prison.

The band’s show at the Forum in London was announced last week shortly after Doherty was released just 29 days into a 14-week prison sentence.

Fans were in an excitable mood throughout the show, which saw Babyshambles mix new songs with hits from their previous two albums.

Doherty, who was dressed in a suit and trilby, thanked “everyone who wrote a letter over the last month” before the band began the concert with ‘Pipe Down’.

The singer also told fans how much he was looking forward to the show but joked that he had developed a “fucking massive spot” on his face.

Amongst the band’s new songs was ‘Maybeline’ – a video for which was published on Youtube last week showing Doherty being strangled by his ex-girlfriend, model Irina Lazareanu.

One of the loudest cheers of the night was reserved for Shane McGowan, who clutched a drink as he sang ‘Dirty Old Town’ with the band.

As the show progressed, fans, who had been invading the stage throughout the gig, began turning on each other, with security intervening in one scuffle.

Doherty, who broke smoking laws by lighting a cigarette, was also mobbed by a fan as Babyshambles closed their set with a raucous rendition of ‘Fuck Forever’.

After making his way through the crowd, the man flung his arms around Doherty, who returned the favour by pouring beer over the fan.

Security guards then struggled as the man tried to get back at the singer.

  • ”Hits from their previous two albums” - what hits?

  • High light was ’Side of the Road’ which was bloody mental, but to be critical Albion was a bit too drawn out, they easily could of fitted another song in. Dissapointed not to hear French Dog Blues, You Talk or Lost Art of Murder, but all in all a very strong performance.

  • ”hits” = Massive tunes loved by loads of fans. NOT making it onto Radio1 or MTV playlists. Pete gets in the charts (and still sells records from 7 years ago) despite giving them away on the internet and suffering negative bias from spineless media. Didnt see them last night but they were great in Nottingham arena. (unless you turned up expecting Scouting For Girls, The Feeling or Coldplay type performance zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!)

People were helping eachother out - but there were as always a one or two people who are *$$*$% lets just say not real fans more like football hooligans! Pete was on top form - thanks for a great gig as usual! Up the Doherty!!! Love you Pete!!! xxxxx
