Ireland’s entry in the 2008 Eurovision song contest was knocked out in the semi-final stage of the competition yesterday (May 20th).
Dustin the Turkey failed to impress public voters in Belgrade with his entry ‘Douze Points’.
It marks a dramatic exit for Ireland, who have won the famous singing competition a record seven times.
Ten countries out of a possible nineteen were put through to the final last night, with a further semi-final scheduled for tomorrow (May 22nd).
The UK’s entrant Andy Abrahams is an automatic qualifier for the final because of the country’s financial support for the competition.
Before last nights semi-final Dustin the Turkey was confident about his hopes in the competition, saying he felt the song would bring war-torn countries together.
The puppet, who’s been a familiar site on Irish television for over a decade, called his entry “a hymn” rather than a song.
