Ex-Pink Floyd Manager: 'Glastonbury Has Lost Its Distinctiveness'

Peter Jenner, the former manager of Pink Floyd, says he believes that the Glastonbury Festival has lost some of its distinctiveness.

Jenner was responding to the news that Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis recently turned down an offer from Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour to perform at this year's event.

Eavis, in a statement, said saying that he “couldn't bump one of the artists off, even for him [David Gilmour].”

Speaking to BBC 6 Music, Jenner said that Eavis’s decision not to accept Gilmour’s offer was evidence of how the festival is changing.

"I think David's wonderful and should have been on and I don't understand it, but then, frankly I have to say I'm surprised that Billy Bragg hasn't been on the main stage of Glastonbury for a long time because I know the same thing, I know that the audience loves him there,” he said.

"I wonder whether what's happening now is a sign that they're losing some of their identity by playing the flavour of the month game.

    “I think that's a mistake, they've lost a lot of their distinctiveness."

    • Are you kidding me? Refusing David Gilmour and the boys for a night with Amy Winehouse and Jay-Z?!?! Excuse me while I shoot myself.

    • Jay-Z is the future, and will be bigger than Pink Floyd, and I now wear my pants down around me ankles and walk around to show my love for the greatest musician ever. I don't understand the controversy. Michael Eavis is a visionary, he knows who will own music and has the best cred. Ya Boyyyyy

    • Jay-Z is a talentless shit along with most of these so called 'artists' of today. Roger Waters and the rest of pink floyd are the visionaries.

    • Did Roger ever write a rhyme, or pump up a crowd? Jay-Z is working on his guitar work too. Gilmoor is his bee-atch. Change is coming America, and the new nation will rise.

    • Umm, Yes? Lots, and "Jay-Z" is working on his guitarwork? Ohh, wow, that means he's sure to be as good as Dave Gilmour, widley regarded as one of the best guitarists ever! No problem? -ahem-
