Apple Praise iPhone 3G As Company Announces Profit Rise

Apple chief executive Steve Jobs believes the company is onto “a real winner” with the second generation of its mobile phone, the iPhone 3G.

Jobs comments coincided with the announcement that the technology giants' profits rose 31% to $1.07billion in the fiscal third quarter of 2008.

Apple said record sales of its Macbook and renewed interest in its iPod's was behind the rise - but a warning that the figures might not meet expectations of analysts caused the company's share price to fall yesterday (July 22nd).

"We set a new record for Mac sales, we think we have a real winner with our new iPhone 3G, and we’re busy finishing several more wonderful new products to launch in the coming months,” Mr Jobs said.

Apple confirmed earlier this month that they had sold 1million iPhone 3G's in the first three days that the new device was on sale.
