Republican John McCain's bid to become the next president of the United States has attracted the support of little known country singer John Rich.
Rich has written a song, entitled 'Raising McCain', which focuses on the five-and-a-half years Mr McCain spent as a prisoner of war during the Vietnamese war.
"He stayed strong, stayed extra long til they let all the other boys out. Now we've got a real man with an American plan, we're going to put him in the big White House,” Rich sings.
Speaking about the track, which Rich will debut tomorrow, the singer said Mr McCain had generated his new interest in politics and that he hopes the song captures his “maverick spirit”.
"The entire world is looking for a way to sucker punch us," Rich told the Associated Press.
"National security is absolutely at the top of the list of issues. That's why I think John McCain is the guy to keep us safe."
Until now, Mr McCain's campaign has failed to capture the hearts of musicians in the same way as his rival, democratic candidate Barack Obama.
Mr Obama has already secured the support of musicians from a number of music genres. To find out who, CLICK HERE.
