'Axed' Alex Zane Accuses XFM Of Over-Reacting

DJ Alex Zane has accused XFM of “over-reacting” after the radio station suspended him for playing a controversial song on air.

Zane and his co-hosts, Marc Haynes and Sunta Templeton, were suspended for one week from the breakfast show for playing the song, which detailed a man's advances towards a woman.

Initial media reports claimed 'I Won't Take No For An Answer', which was written by the trio, was about rape.

Speaking to Broadcast magazine, Zane, who denies the song has anything to do with rape, said: “The over-the-top response... would suggest a station being overly cautious."

In a statement issued following their suspension, XFM said the song was “distasteful and likely to cause offence”, but Zane claims no listener complained about the feature.

DJ Dave Berry has been hosting the programme in his absence.

  • Would Zane still think the song was funny if a close friend or family member had been raped? The prick should be hung by his balls

  • Get over yourself Lode/Mushroom you moron, the song wasn’t about rape, and having met the lovely Alex, I know he wouldn’’t do something that evil. Major overreaction from XFM, maybe the breakfast show is about to be made scapegoats for their poor Rajars overall.

  • Hold on so you’ve met someone once and you can claim I know he wouldn’’t do something that evil" I’’m sure people have met, Hitler and said the same thing. In response to the actual article yeah its a bit harsh by XFM but XFM is a business and they have a duties to protect the publics financial interests and if they think Zane is going to offend audiences then they should come down on him, when he owns the station he can play what eve
