Glastonbury Headliners To Be Confirmed 'Pretty Soon'

It's unlikely to be the Rolling Stones, U2 or Coldplay...

Glastonbury Headliners To Be Confirmed 'Pretty Soon' Add to My Fav Bands List

Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has revealed that the headliners for next year's Glastonbury Festival will be confirmed “pretty soon”.

The 29-year-old said the festival is already in talks with “ a few” headliners for 2009, but refused to reveal who they were.

She did however rule out some big names who she categorically hasn't been talking to, saying: “It's not Coldplay, it's not U2 and it's not the Rolling Stones."

The only confirmed acts for next year are Franz Ferdinand and The Ting Tings who will appear “somewhere on the bill” as a thank you for their Glastonbury fund-raiser last Friday.

Many are predicting that Radiohead will headline the festival, following their legendary shows in 1997 and 2003. Another name being brandished around is Led Zeppelin, although this seems increasingly unlikely.

Ms Eavis explained that talks with headliners have begun earlier this year due to tickets going on sale six months before their previous date of April.

She tells the BBC: “Because our tickets go on sale on 5 October, we've brought it forward. So we're ensconced in chat about next year and there's a lot of good feeling after such an amazing festival (in 2008).

"We're talking to a few people at the moment and I think pretty soon we'll have some stuff sorted."

  • @Gigwise yeah it seems an odd move. Sold out already, surely? Hardly highly secretive material. I'm taking my anger out on Jo Whiley anyway.

  • @Gigwise - granted, they were brilliant in the 90's but so were Blur and I'm anxiously craving some more.
