Bruce Springsteen told a political rally in Michigan yesterday (October 6th) that Republican John McCain's attacks on Barack Obama wouldn't stop the Democrats sweeping to power this November.

The singer, who was making the final one of three appearances on behalf of Mr Obama's campaign, urged crowds to register to vote for the former Illinois senator.

During a short acoustic set, Springsteen warned that Mr McCain would launch “an attack on Senator Obama's character that will make the Swift Boaters look fair and balanced." But he added: "They will fail."

The singer's comments came as Mr McCain upped his personal attacks on Mr Obama, asking what the politician had ever done for government. The pair face a head-to-head televised debate this evening.

As previously reported on Gigwise, Springsteen also performed in Philadelphia on Saturday, telling crowds there that George W Bush's presidency was the reason why people had “justifiably lost faith” in the American dream.

He is due to perform a special concert for Mr Obama on October 16th alongside Billy Joel and John Legend.
