Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has spent time in the rehearsal studio with members of Led Zeppelin, it's been revealed.

In an interview with AeroDailyNews, Aerosmith's guitarist Brad Whitford said Tyler had joined guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham in a jam session “for fun”.

The news comes just days after Jones revealed that he, Page and Bonham planned to tour together minus singer Robert Plant.

Plant ruled himself out of touring with Led Zeppelin again last month, saying that he found the constant speculation around the band's future “frustrating and ridiculous”.

'Light a fire'

But Whitford said he believed Tyler had joined the band to try and “light a fire under Robert [Plant]”.

"I actually think Jimmy wanted Steven to come over and play a little bit because, I think, he was trying to light a fire under Robert. "Come on! Come on, Robert, let's go!"

Calls for a full Led Zeppelin reunion tour have been constant since the bands reunion show at the O2 Arena last December - which attracted 1 million applicants for just 9,000 pairs of tickets.

Speaking to the BBC on Tuesday, Jones said the group's remaining members “really hope” to return to the road, although he didn't specify when.

“As soon as we know — which we don't — we will let you know,” he added.
