The late Jeff Buckley looks set to come second in the official Christmas chart after sales of his cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' passed the current number one Leona Lewis, Gigwise can reveal.
Buckley's cover has sold just over 56,000 copies so far this week – 5000 more than Lewis's cover of 'Run' by Snow Patrol.
But both acts are over 300,000 copies behind X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, who is already guaranteed the top spot.
Burke's released her single, also a cover 'Hallelujah', after winning the talent contest last weekend.
As previously reported on Gigwise, Buckley's version of Leonard Cohen's song has shot up the charts thanks to an internet campaign launched by his fans.
Over 30,000 people have now joined a Facebook group dedicated to the challenge in a bid to prevent the winner of The X Factor from dominating the festive chart.
Burke's bid to be Christmas number one has been endorsed by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
