Singer-songwriter John Martyn, who transcended genre barriers, has died at the age of 60.
Martyn was regarded as one of the most progressive musicians of his generation, working across the fields of folk, blues and jazz music.
"With heavy heart and an unbearable sense of loss we must announce that John died this morning,” a statement said on his website.
Martyn launched his career in 1967 with the critically acclaimed album 'London Conversation'.
The singer-songwriter, an only child, was born in Surrey but grew up with his parents in Glasgow.
He was made an OBE by the Queen in the New Year Honours.
