Global internet traffic increased by 33% during Michael Jackson's memorial service in Los Angeles yesterday (July 7).
The star's fans turned to the web to watch and discuss the ceremony as it took place at the Staples Center.
Akamai, which manages over 20% of web content and application delivery, recorded the second-largest day in its history. The day of Jackson's death, June 25, was its biggest.
At its peak, the company boasted 4million visitors minute, according to the BBC.
Social networking websites, inclufing Facebook and Twitter, were also dominated by the memorial service.
Meanwhile, around 6 million viewers from the UK tuned in to watch Jackson's memorial on television.
The ceremony was shown during prime time slots on BBC2 and Channel 5, as well as some of the major news channels.
It's thought up to one billion p leople watched the serviceive around the world.
