Doves singer and bassist Jimi Goodwin has revealed that the Manchester band want to write the score to a film.
Goodwin told Gigwise it was one of the options they were considering before making the follow-up to 2009’s ‘Kingdom Of Rust’.
“We need to shake things up by doing something…I don’t know what it’ll be,” he said.
“Scoring a film. We’re always saying that and no one seems to pick up on it, but we’d fucking love to score a film.”
When asked about their reasons for wanting to write a soundtrack, Goodwin replied: “We just always have.
“Hopefully you can hear it in your music. Everything is very filmic and we’ve often sampled many of the TV cop films of old.
“We’ve been doing that since we were in [former band] Sub Sub.”
‘Proved we can take a break'
Doves have been touring ‘Kingdom of Rust’ – their fourth record and first for four years – throughout the summer.
In an exclusive interview with Gigwise, Goodwin admitted he and his band mates, Jez and Andy Williams, were nervous about returning after a long break.
But he said they felt the positive response to ‘Kingdom Of Rust’ had “proved” they could take time out between releases.
“I think we need to get out of this album tour, album tour – and now more than ever with the industry almost in ruins,” Goodwin said.
“There’s no fucking rules, we don’t have to get back on that trip.”
Doves are set to play a one off show at Manchester Central on December 18. For ticket information, check out the Gigwise Gig Guide.
