The first man to ever top the UK charts, Al Martino, has died at the age of 82.

The Italian-American crooner stayed at number one for nine weeks in 1952 with 'Here In My Heart' when the New Musical Express chart was formed.

Martino, who also scored chart hits with 'Spanish Eyes' and 'Can't Help Falling In Love', died at his Philadelphia home.

As well as a music career Martino also starred as Johnny Fontane in the legendary 1972 movie 'The Godfather', a character said to be based on Frank Sinatra.

As well as starring in it, he also recorded the title tune to classic mafia movie.
