The founder of the Rage Against The Machine Facebook campaign has spoken exclusively to Gigwise about 'Killing In The Name' hitting number one.
Tracy Morter, who set up the Facebook group with her husband Jon, says she is “totally overwhelmed” with the news of beating Joe McElderry to the festive top spot. .
Tracy said: “I'm totally overwhelmed! I really thought Joe would pip us at the post. We wish him really well with his career and hope his first Christmas as an X Factor winner is awesome.”
“We just wanted the festive chart to be exciting again.”
She continued: “Thanks so much to all the supporters who bought Killing In The Name. Couldn't have done it without you and thanks so much for helping donate to Shelter too. That alone made this worth it. Happy Christmas! Can't wait to see TOTP this year.”
Rage Against The Machine shifted 502,000 downloads achieving two new records in the process – the most British downloads in one week and the first download-only track to make it to number one.

- How can you wish Joe all the best when you have dashed the dreams of a young lad who can actually sing. This is a person's life you're using as a game. He'll be back.
- He may be able to sing but there is far more to being a good artist than having a good voice. Personally I found Joe's single a little dull - I just don't think his voice is that unique. It is also worth pointing out that RATM went triple platinum so clearly there are a lot of people who like the song.
- How can you dash the dreams of a young lad on his first release? There'll be other drull released no doubt. Do you not get what this whole thing was about?
- Dash his dreams? So getting to number 2 and selling hundreds of thousands of records isn't good enough for poor Joe? So many talented artists don't get anywhere in the charts, with songs far more deserving than this bland, cliched and repetitive song! Let's face it, RATM had the better song!
- What about the dreams of all the even more talented young people who live, breathe and dream music? Who have to work tirelessly for the sort of opportunities that the xfactor hands to people on a plate, cus they have the right look or backstory not because they make good music or are genuinely dedicated. What happened to working for opportunities and success? If music is truly your dream you would be prepared to do that.
