The legend that is David Bowie has pledged his support to the campaign to save BBC 6 Music from closure.

A report on The Times today claims that along with the BBC Asian Network, 6 Music faces the axe as the Beeb looks to save millions of pounds in an effort to focus on “quality over quantity”.

There has been a huge outcry from the music-loving public, with a Save BBC 6Music Facebook group organised by 'Rage Against The Machine For Christmas Number One' founders Jon and Tracy Morter attracting over 60,000 fans.

Now, via his press company Outside Org, David Bowie has spoken about the fate of the station.

He said: “6 Music keeps the spirit of broadcasters like John Peel alive and for new artists to lose this station would be a great shame”

The BBC has so far refused to comment on the “speculation.”

  • This is tantamount to closing the railways down by Beeching . This would be a grave error with repurcussions going beyond the foreseeable.

  • Maybe they could sack Moyles on Radio 1 - that should save about half their annual budget and millions of ears!!!

  • Anyone with half a braincell can see that this is complete madness. 6 Music is the best thing to come out of the BBC in years. Start by signing the petition and officially complain to the beeb.
