The Libertines have held secret rehearsals ahead of announcing their reunion, it's been reported.

The group are rumoured to be on the line-up for this summer's Reading and Leeds festivals, which is announced tonight (March 29).

It will mark the first time the band's original line-up has come together since singer Pete Doherty's acrimonious departure in 2004 due to drug problems.

However, guitarist Carl Barat, drummer Gary Powell and bassist John Hassall only reportedly agreed to participate after Doherty assured them he would be capable of joining in.

“The four of them only agreed to it after a secret rehearsal to see if it still worked,” a source told The Sun.

"Carl is nervous about the reunion because he is worried Pete could let him down again. But Pete's promised he will give his all for the gigs."

The source added that the band could record new material if the unconfirmed reunion proves successful.

The full line-up for this year's Reading and Leeds festival, which runs from August 27-29, will be announced at 7pm.

Reports have claimed that Guns N' Roses, Arcade Fire and Blink-182 are set to headline the event.
