Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien has revealed that the band hope to finish recording their new album “in a matter of weeks”.

The group are currently working on the follow-up to 2007's 'In Rainbows' with producer Nigel Godrich.

O'Brien said they were within “touching distance” of completing the album, but admitted that anything could change.

“For ages and ages it seems like the finishing line is miles away, and now it feels [like] it's in touching distance,” he said.

“But of course, it being the creative process, it's like anything, you have bursts of energy where you achieve a lot in small periods of time and then sometimes things slow down,” he said.

“But yeah, hopefully it's a matter of weeks.”

Speaking to BBC 6 Music, O'Brien admitted that the band had adopted a new approach to recording after 'In Rainbows'.

The album, which the band allowed fans to name what price they paid for it, took three years to make.

“That was the end of Radiohead mark two,” he said. “The only way that will work for us to carry on is to actually to it in a different spirit – enjoy it.”

It is not yet clear when Radiohead plan to release their as-yet-untitled new album.
