Doctor Who star Matt Smith made a surprise appearance alongside Orbital at the Glastonbury Festival at the weekend.

The British actor introduced the electronic duo’s rendition of the TV show’s theme on The Other Stage.

"So Glastonbury, this is the last song of the evening people, if you're lost... let's make this one count,” he said.

“For Orbital, they're back! For Glastonbury, we're back! Let me hear you cheer, let me hear you roar, for Glastonbury."

Smith’s appearance came just 24 hours after the current series of Doctor Who came to an end on BBC 1.

The 40th anniversary edition of the festival featured performances from Stevie Wonder, Muse and Gorillaz.
