Kings Of Leon debuted new material as they played a huge outdoor gig in London tonight (June 30).

The US band surprised fans - and their record label - with back-to-back new songs at Hyde Park.

The tracks formed part of a career-spanning setlist, which delighted the 65,000-strong crowd.

Taking to a stage emblazoned with their logo, Kings Of Leon kicked off with ‘Crawl’, with singer Caleb Followill sporting a denim shirt and white T-shirt.

Introducing the new material, the first two songs of which appeared early in the set, Followill said: "Since we saw you guys last we all went and made a record. That's what we do, we work a lot."

Followill added that they had only played the tracks, one of which was evidently blues inspired, to their record label for the first time yesterday (June 29).

Elsewhere, Kings Of Leon's set, which was watched by the likes of Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton, delved into their back catalogue, with 'Molly’s Chambers’ and 'The Bucket' prompting a rapturous response.

"This is shocking - can't believe you guys came out," a clearly emotional Followill said.

Tickets for the show were snapped up in seconds when they went on sale in February. Other set highlights with the boisterous crowd included 'Charmer', 'Closer' and a raucous rendition of 'Sex on Fire'.

Kings Of Leon were supported by an impressive roster of acts, including The Drums, who delighted fans with a sun-friendly set earlier in the evening.

Clearly at home on the bigger stage, the New York group's crowd-pleasing performance concluded with their biggest hit, 'Let's Go Surfing'.

Kings Of Leon return to the UK to headline the V Festival in August. Their as-yet-untitled new album has yet to be given a release date.
