Klaxons bassist Jamie Reynolds has told Gigwise that These New Puritans should have been nominated for this year's Mercury Prize.
The group's second album 'Hidden' was not included on the shortlist, which was unveiled at a ceremony in London on Tuesday (July 20).
Acts that did receive a nomination included Mumford & Sons, Paul Weller, Wild Beasts and The xx.
Reynolds, whose band won the award in 2007, said 'Hidden' was a notable omission after receiving such initial critical acclaim.
“I think there's one band that's missing off that list that caught my eye that probably made the most exciting record of the last year and that is These New Puritans,” the bassist told Gigwise.
“That record's really brave and achieved extremely high critical acclaim at the time, and deservedly so – it's absolutely mind blowing – and I think looking at the list there's an element of there being more commercial records on there than the TNPS record.
“And that's a bit strange because with it being a critical award that should have been there.”
But Reynolds said that, on the whole, this year's shortlist was “all good”.
Klaxons won the Mercury Prize in 2007 for their debut album 'Myths Of The Near Future'.
They release their follow-up, 'Surfing The Void', on August 23.
