My Chemical Romance: 'Black Parade' Imprisoned Us

My Chemical Romance have said they felt imprisoned by their last album ‘Black Parade’.

The 2006 LP saw the group adopt a darker sound and stage persona, including military costumes.

The band have since reverted to a more colourful image for new album ‘Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys’, which was released today (November 22).

In part two of Gigwise’s exclusive video interview with the band, guitarist Ray Toro said they now felt more liberated on stage.
“I think with ‘Black Parade’ we kind of adopted this persona in front of the audience and it was kind of antagonistic and we were going up there with something to prove,” he said.

“Now it’s a lot different. Now the band is much more confident up there and it’s just us, we’re not trying to play these characters, we’re not putting ourselves in a certain mindset to get in front of audiences, we’re just going up there enjoying playing our songs for people.

“There’s definitely a different energy with us and the crowd - it’s a much better thing.”
