Nicki Minaj has revealed that she grew up in fear that her mother would be killed by her father.
The rapper said her father was “physically and verbally” violent – and that it had an impact on her own personality when she was a teenager.
"All of my young and teenage early years we lived in fear that my mother would be killed by my father,” she told The Sun.
“It was ridiculous. It made me act out to guys and be evil to them when I was growing up.”
But Minaj said she was able to overcome her troubles by cutting ties with her father.
The rapper, who released her new album 'Pink Friday' last year, recently completed a promotional tour of the UK.
