Rio Ferdinand has criticised plans to unveil a statue of Michael Jackson outside Craven Cottage, the home of Fulham football club.
The tribute is due to be unveiled by chairman Mohammed Al Fayed next month.
Al Fayed had originally commissioned the statue to be unveiled at Harrods but Craven Cottage was chosen as an alternative venue when following the department store's sale.
He told the Guardian the statue would celebrate “ the finest performer in the world”.
But on Twitter, Manchester United star Ferdinand, a fan of Jackson, said he believed past footballers were more worthy of the tribute.
He wrote: “Michael Jackson statue outside Fulham FC? I'm a huge Jacko fan but why?! Surely there's a long list of players who deserve a statue b4 Jacko.”
The statue will be unveiled at 12pm on April 3.
