Simon Cowell is in talks to secure Cheryl Cole's return as a judge on The X Factor USA, it's been confirmed.
The Girls Aloud star was sacked from the programme last week reportedly amid concerns from US TV bosses over her Newcastle accent.
The music mogul's publicist Max Clifford told BBC News that talks were ongoing “at the highest level” between Cowell and Fox TV, which will broadcast The X Factor in America.
"Simon's position is clear - he wants her to be on the show if that's possible," Clifford said. "The reason Simon hasn't said anything is because he has been working to try and make sure she is on the show.
"But obviously there's other important people involved in this decision in America and they've all got to be happy.”
Cowell is one of the other X Factor judges along with Paula Abdul and LA Reid. The programme is due to begin in August.
