Calls For New Top Of The Pops Type Music TV Show

Music industry wants it back...

July 25, 2011 by Jason Gregory

There are fresh calls for a new prime-time music TV show following the demise of Top Of The Pops (TOTP) five years ago.

BPI chairman Tony Wadsworth told Music Week there was a “big gap” in the market for a weekly programme.

“We are not saying ‘bring back TOTP’ but there is a gap and the BBC is missing a trick by not having a show,” he added.

A spokesperson for the BBC said there were currently no plans for Top Of The Pops to return, but said the corporation was in talks with the music industry.

Top Of The Pops ran for forty two years before being dropped in 2006.

Earlier this year, the BBC began showing old episodes of TOTP again on BBC 4.
