The time it takes for drug addicts to be given access to rehabilitation facilities is to be reviewed following the death of Amy Winehouse.
Plans are also in place to launch a foundation in the singer's name.
During his eulogy at the singer's funeral yesterday (July 26), the singer's father Mitch Winehouse said addicts had to wait two years to be treated on the NHS.
He said he was working with Keith Vaz, the Chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, to address the issue. In 2009, the singer's father told the committee that addicts often committed crimes to be fast-tracked into rehab.
Today (July 27), Mr Vaz told The Telegraph: “Mitch Winehouse gave powerful evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee during our inquiry into drugs in 2009.
“Drawing on his personal experience he highlighted the long delay in accessing treatment for those with addiction. Two years on we need to revisit this issue to see if anything has improved.
“I am very happy to help Mitch in any way I can with his important campaign to help rehabilitate those most vulnerable in our society."
Mitch Winehouse also used his eulogy to reveal that he was setting up the Amy Winehouse Foundation to benefit children and people battling addiction problems.
