Dubstep and grime are among the new words added to the latest edition of the Chambers dictionary.

Grime is described as "a style of popular music combining elements of dance hall and hip hop".

Dubstep, which has entered the mainstream in recent months thanks to artists like Katy B, James Blake and Nero, is labelled a "type of electronic popular dance music developed from drum and bass".

A total of 200 words have been added to the dictionary, including beatboxing, which is defined as "imitating an electronic drum machine using the voice".

Robert Williams, commissioning editor of the Chambers dictionary, said: "Chambers only includes words that are here to stay and these music styles have proved that they are.”

"The way people create and consume music is also driving major changes in the way we speak,” he added.
