Bert Jansch, a guitarist and founding member of Pentangle, has died at the age of 67.

The guitarist, who had been battling cancer, died in the early hours of this morning (October 5) at a hospice in Hampstead, north London, according to BBC News.

Jansch was born in Glasgow in 1943 and founded Pentangle in 1967.

Pentangle last performed together with Jansch at the Royal Festival Hall in August this year.

Jansch had also collaborated with a host of contemporary musicians, including Pete Doherty's Babyshambles.

Neil Young described him "as much of a great guitar player as Jimi Hendrix"
