Fans of 'The Swarm' rockers You Me At Six are furious at recent comments made by Blood Red Shoes in an exclusive Gigwise interview. The band use You Me At Six and The Vaccines as examples of 'terrible' modern music.
The band told us: "There's load of terrible music at the moment. What bothers me is stuff like The Vaccines and You Me At Six - really safe, really clean-cut bands that seem very career-ist to me and its a decision to be what they are...”
The comment has sparked a heated debate between fans of You Me At Six and from The Blood Red Shoes online, after the video was posted to YouTube. YouTube comments included:
"Before You Me At Six got big they were doing the exact same thing, writing and playing their own music, they've always been pop punk even before their success so I don't think its a business thing, its their sound take it or leave it," amyeldr3d says on YouTube. "But you can't say they were doing it for commercial success when they were basically unknown and british pop punk was pretty much unheard of."
"Ridiculous," added fo0lsgold. "Bashing successful british bands will not get you anywhere.This is incredibly petty and basically is just an attempt to get publicity, which it has. Bands like You Me At Six have always stayed true to themselves and their genre."
AllTimeLoserrr comments: "People should be doing what music they want to play and that's exactly what You Me At Six are doing. They enjoy what they play, and you can tell from live performances and their attitudes in general, they're not stuck up hipster twats, they're really down to earth nice guys and their music is amazing."
"What's with the jealousy? British underground music is thriving at the moment and that's something that should be celebrated and praised, not criticised," says an outraged KirstiMeAtSix. "Hate on the generic crap like One Direction and JLS, not the bands that write their own music and have worked their way up like You Me At Six."
Meanwhile, on Twitter, the debate raged with equal fury.
"Sorry Blood Red Shoes, You Me At Six can't hear you over their SOLD OUT HEADLINE TOUR," said @AllTimeSixer.
"Blood Red Shoes made a comment about yma6's music being middle of the road and a thousand 16 year old girls went apeshit," commented @LowerThanMike.
"I was gonna download the new blood red shoes song, then they insulted you me at six, THINK AGAIN!" said @notmypr0blemx
Responses weren't all from the You Me At Six fans however, with Blood Red Shoes fans giving as good as they got.
"Blood Red Shoes are trending because they slagged off You Me At Six. Good," said @HattiRex.
I love blood red shoes even more now, You me at six are absolutely wank," said @joeconnell
"Blood Red Shoes: "You Me At Six are terrible. Vaccines are middle of the road. Bears shit in woods," added @brilliantmindd.
