    One Direction make history with US album chart debut

    Boyband are the first UK pop group in history to debut at No.1 on US charts

    One Direction have become the first ever UK pop group to debut at No.1 on the US album chart.

    They British Boyband, who were put together on The X-Factor, have had their first US release 'Up All Night' enter staight at the top spot on the Billboard chart.

    One Direction have said "it's a dream come true.. We simply cannot believe that we are number one in America. We want to thank each and every one of our fans in the US who bought our album and we would also like to thank the American public for being so supportive of us."

    The British group consist of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson, and are signed to Simon Cowell's record label 'SyCo'.

    The young popstars sold 176,000 copies of the album in the US in the album's first week of release, making them the first British group in history to enter at number one. The previous highest entry for a UK group's debut album was number six, when the Spice Girls entered the US charts with thier album 'Spice' in 1997.

    'Up All Night' the debut album from One Direction has already shot to number one in the UK, and sold over 4.2million copies around the globe.  Simon Cowell has said: "I couldn't be happier for One Direction, it is an incredible achievement. They deserve it they have the best fans in the world."

    This follows a recent surge in sales for British Boybands in the U.S. Recently 'The Wanted' hit number 4 in the Billboard charts with their single 'Glad You Came'.
