Former Streets main-man Mike Skinner has revealed how Coldplay singer Chris Martin hated his vocals on an early version of hit single, 'Dry Your Eyes'.
The soft-rocker contributed guest vocals to an early version of the track, but due to issues with Martin's record label, the duet was never released. Now, Skinner has spoken about the duet in his new autobiography.
"When I wrote 'Dry Your Eyes' I thought the chorus would work well with Chris singing it, so so I sent it to him. We met up in at Primrose Hill and recorded the vocal, which I was really pleased with," he says in the book. "But then the guy from EMI said he didn't think the song was a hit, and Chris didn't like the sound of his own voice on it, so that version got pulled."
He also told how record label involvement took the track out of the artist's hands, adding: "Once the song was done, the whole thing changed from being something that was between us, to something that was between our record labels."
Mike Skinner sungs lead vocals on the finished version of 'Dry Your Eyes' himself, and the single was The Streets biggest hit single, scoring Skinner a UK No.1 hit.
