One Direction to lose name in legal battle with US boyband?

Currently the hottest musical export from the UK, One Direction have hit a snag in their ongoing quest to conquer America - a law suit from an existing US boyband named One Direction.

The US boyband claim to have formed in 2009 - a year before Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson were put together on The X Factor on UK TV screens.

American gossip website TMZ report that the US group are claiming to have previously filed a trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office and are said to be suing Sony Music for a sum upwards of a million dollars.

One Direction (the UK version) are yet to respond to the claims.
