More Lemon Jelly
Fred Deakin
Nick Franglen
15 years after their first meeting Fred and Nick decided it was time to make a record. Both of them had been doing various ‘keep-busy’ jobs which include Nick gardening for Phil Collins; and Fred DJing and designing fliers in Scotland.
It took Fred and Nick five hours to create In the Bath. The Bath EP appears in a carefully created screen-printed sleeve, the work of Fred’s design company.
“We wanted to be so proud of it. We wanted to say; Look at out motherfucking record. It even smelled lovely. You wanted to caress it and take it to bed.” – Nick
The Yellow LP and The Midnight EP were their next two babies.
In 2000 they were (finally) signed by XL Records and amalgamated all three LP’s to make one fantastic album, Lemonjelly.ky. The cover resembles sperm in a lava lamp consequently Fred opens a club called Impotent Fury.
2001, Lemon Jelly release a limited-edition seven-inch, called Soft Rock. It features Chicago’s AOR ‘If you leave me now’ and comes with a free condom.
Lost Horizons followed in 2002, hailed as their ‘first proper album’; a culmination of travel writing and psychedilia. Fred sings, “Show me that I’m everywhere and get me home for tea.”
Their latest album ’64-’95 features a sample of different genres on each track, and a different year. Confused? You’ll have to buy it!
