The Cribs have explained how Johnny Marr leaving the band helped spur them on to record their new album 'In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull'.
The Wakefield trio of brothers will release the album in May and, speaking to The Daily Star, have revealed that they have mixed emotions about the end of their time with the legendary former Smiths guitarist.
"When Johnny left we went through a lot of different emotions," said Gary Jarman.
Adding: “But it was like a shot in the arm and now we’ve got free rein to do whatever we want as brothers. So we rented cheap hotels across America with our four-track recorder to thrash out the album, before finishing it from a garage in Wakefield.”
The band also expressed their sadness at the way MP3 technology has seen the end of singles and b-side recordings with Gary adding: "B-side and single releases are dead, which I think is a terrible shame. We’re trying to bring it back by releasing different versions of the new album with bonus tracks and extras for the fans."
Meanwhile, The Cribs were today announced as the latest band to be added to the line-up for this year's Camden Crawl alongside Spector and Clock Opera.
