Hip-hop radio legend Tim Westwood has spoken of his shock at being axed from his Radio 1Xtra slot.
The 54-year-old broadcaster has lost his weekday 4-7pm programme after three years. He will vacate the slot from September 2012. He will continue to present his 1Xtra and Radio One saturday night shows and will host a Sunday night show from 7-9pm.
The DJ is less than impressed with the schedule reshuffle however, seeming to believe he has been sacked from the station. He tweeted: “I've been sacked from 1Xtra Mon-Fri 4-7pm from sept.”
He later added: “I don't like gettin fired #Westwoodyourefired."
Radio One and 1Xtra chief Ben Cooper said of Westwood's departure: “Tim has proved to be one of the most influential figures in UK hip-hop and I’m delighted that he will continue to bring his wealth of knowledge and unique style to Radio 1 and 1Xtra across the weekends.”
Westwood will be replaced by presenter Charlie Sloth.
