Lady Gaga has been forced to cancel a sold-out show in Indonesia despite earlier vows to fight the religious opposition to her 'Born This Way' ball concert in the country.

The pop superstar's appearance in the country had angered The Islamic Defenders front, who claimed her dance routines and outfits would be a corruptive influence on the youngsters who had bought tickets in their thousands for the gig. 50,000 fans were expected to attend the show. There were fears not only for Gaga's safety - but that of her audience as well.

"With threats if the concert goes ahead, Lady Gaga's side is calling off the concert," said Minola Sebayang, a lawyer for speaking on behalf of concert promoter, Big Daddy. "This is not only about Lady Gaga's security, but extends to those who will be watching her."

Earlier this month (18 May, 2012) Big Daddy told fans they were battling with the country's religious groups, asking for fans' patience in a tweet which read: "Little monsters, be patient please. We will keep you updated. We are still fighting."

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' ball hits the UK later this year. For more information, visit Gigwise Gig Tickets.
