Retired pop veteran Phil Collins has revealed he will never return to performing as he doesn't want to disappoint fans with a 'half-assed' show.

The eighties star has revealed that his priority in life is spending time with his children, and is enjoying his time as a father after quitting music due to nerve damage to his hands and hearing loss.

"I can't play like I used to. And I don't want to go out there and do it half-assed," said Collins in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. "I don't want to be a shadow of what I was so I've just kind of willingly stood back.

"I don't anticipate playing anymore and I don't particularly anticipate writing anymore. I've kind of put that side of my life on hold mainly because I feel like I've earned this opportunity to do nothing."

He also adds that his role as a father has replaced his drive to pitt himself against his music contemporaries, adding: "And I have young children so I don't feel the drive to go out there and compete anymore."
