Unstoppable force of nature Justin Bieber has revealed how his track 'Maria', about his 2011 paternity case, was inspired by Michael Jackson's classic hit, 'Billie Jean'.

In an interview with We Love Pop magazine, the singer spoke of taking inspiration from MJ's timeless hit and wanting to shape the track into something fans could relate to. The song is about fan Mariah Yeater, who claimed Bieber was the father of her child after a backstage encounter at one of his live shows.

"We definitely took inspiration from that song," he told the magazine. "I wanted to write something different and something the fans would be connected to and understand."

He also spoke of his continued disbelief at the situation, adding he is glad the case against him has now been dropped.

"I still just think, 'Wow, I can't believe that happened,' but it's not really hard to talk about because I know the truth. It's behind me. People know what the truth us as well," he continuted. "Before, it was all pretty shady because everyone was like, 'Is it true? Is it not true?' But now I think people know that it's not true."
