Coachella may not take place in 2014 due to a referendum on a proposed tax.

The festival is currently situated in Indio, California, but if the referendum takes place then the weekend tickets would increase by anything from $18 to $36.

Paul Tollett, the president of Coachella’s parent company, said in an interview with the Desert Sun: “If the tax initiative … gets on the ballot, we're going to take off [in] 2014.

“[By] 2015 we'll be at a new facility outside of Indio.”

The tax was declined last month by Indio City Council but may be voted on in November.
