Poice have made a fresh appeal for 22-year-old Stone Roses fan Christopher Brahney who went missing a week ago after The Stone Roses first Heaton Park show. Police believe they have traced his phone to Edinburgh and have renewed their inquiries.

Christopher Brahney was last seen at the first of the three Heaton Park gigs before he became seperated from friends. Police have tracked the SIM card in his mobile phone since and have managed to detect a signal in Scotland.

According to the Manchester Evening News, there have also been reports of sightings of Brahney immediately after the concert ended at the Park and Ride site in Bowlee.

Onlookers claimed he was getting off a bus at the site and telling some people he had lost his friends. A second report of a sighting places Chris outside the Maccabi Sport Centre on Bury Old Road at about 12.05am that night. Police believe this may mean he was trying to head back to Heaton Park having already left.

Speaking about the case, Detective Inspector Debbie Oakes said: “The potential sighting near the Maccabi Sports Centre suggests that Chris could have been trying to work his way back to Heaton Park, and I would urge anyone who may have been in this area at this time to get in touch if they think they can help.

Adding: "We have also now had an indication that Chris' phone may be in Edinburgh. "This is the phone that Chris was trying to find when he went missing. I do not want the public to jump to any conclusions as to the significance of this; at this stage all indications suggest that someone else now has this phone in their possession. I would urge that person to come forward. I want to reassure him or her that they are not in any trouble with the police. "All we are interested in is what they know and they may well have information that is vital to this inquiry."

The Stone Roses themseles have become involved in the missing persons case, publishing links to a Facebook group aiming to find Brahney. That group already has nearly a million members.
