Piers Morgan was left embarrassed after mistakenly broadcasting footage of a transvestite Whitney Houston tribute act instead of the real thing.

Morgan was chatting to LL Cool J earlier this week about Houston’s death this year and accompanied the interview with footage of what he believed to be the singer performing live.

However, it has since been revealed that the video playing was, in fact, showing Ikenna Beney Amaechi; a German Whitney drag impersonator

Speaking to TMZ, Ameachi said: "I was just sitting at home and at first I didn’t realize it, but then it hit me like BOOM! It wasn’t Whitney … It was me!”

Adding: “I feel very honored that I was mistaken for the real Whitney Houston on CNN … is there EVEN a bigger compliment for a tribute artist?!"

Meanwhile, in a rare moment of humility on Twitter, Piers Morgan admitted his error and stated: “It’s a fair cop."
