Manic Street Preachers have revealed that they had to turn down an offer to appear at the Olympic closing ceremony as it clashes with their touring schedule.

The Welsh band were offered the chance to appear alongside The Who, Take That and Jessie J in the huge 'Symphony of British Music' spectacular planned for the finale of the Games in August.

However, as the band wrote on their official Facebook page, circumstances stood against them.

"Seen rumours of MSP playing the Olympic closing ceremony. To confirm, we were offered but declined," the post read.

"Shame because I truly love the Olympics - the sport that is not all this other nonsense - the offer was weeks ago, we'll now be in S. Korea."

Other stars set to appear at the Games closing ceremony include Emeli Sande, Ed Sheeran, Tinie Tempah and Russell Brand.
