Passion Pit frontman Michael Angelakos has cancelled a string of tour dates amidst fears for his mental health.

Angelakos and his Passion Pit bandmates were due to play a string of US dates ahead of the release of new album 'Gossamer'. However, those dates will now not happen as the singer tries to get back on track.

Posting on Passion Pit's website, Angelakos wrote: "On behalf of the band and myself, I would like to greatly apologize for the show cancelations. In order for me to ensure that there will be no further disruptions, I am going to take the time to work on improving my mental health. For now, I'd like to thank all of our fans for their understanding. I hope to see all of you very soon in a much different light."

Six gigs in total have been cancelled with dates including last night's show in Nashville. The full list of affected dates is as follows:

Nashville, TN - Marathon Music Works  - July 16th
Knoxville, TN - The Valarium  - 17th
Charlotte, NC - The Fillmore  19th
Norfok, VA - The Norva  - 20th
Dover, DE - Firefly Music Festival  - 21st
New York, NY - Apollo Theater - 23rd

Passion Pit will resume their tour on August 2nd in Chicago. Their dates at the Reading & Leeds festivals are unaffected.
