Shirley Manson’s manager was forced to file a complaint with LA police after hundreds of abusive messages were sent from a Twitter account targeting the Garbage frontwoman.
The user @Gunn2urhead, known only as Ray Gunn, posted 273 tweets in just one day and almost all of them were targeting the Garbage frontwoman. The messages ranged from death threats – ‘I WANT U DEAD’ – to crazy beliefs that Manson is a telepathic witch who affects the user while he sleeps.
Some of the tweets read ‘Blood for poppies: Stares at our pictures so they can radiate. She's a telepath now. She's messing with u with brain frequencies!’ and ‘Dude, she hurts me in my sleep!’.
The LAPD have issued a search warrant requesting information from Twitter executives about the account.
The warrant states: “[Manson] stated that she is in great fear for her and her family's safety due to the nature of the threats, the sheer volume of them and the 'crazy' sounding messages being posted towards her. She stated she has never had anything like this on this level occur to her and she is very frightened and wants the threats to be investigated fully.”
The account hasn’t been updated since 21 June but authorities are still investigating and hope to bring criminal charges against whoever is behind the account. The user faces a felony charge of cyber stalking if convicted.
Garbage recently released their fifth studio album, ‘Not Your Kind Of People.’
