A rare Beatles album has sold for around $15,000 on eBay.

'Introducing…The Beatles', the first album the iconic band ever released in America, became a must have for collectors when it went on sale recently with bidders soon placing thousands of dollars down to secure the item for themselves.

Included on the tracklisting of the musical rarity are 'Love Me Do' and 'PS, I Love You'.

Released in 1964, 'Introducing... The Beatles' ran into some production difficulties after back covers for the 6,000 copies printed did not turn up. As a result, a small number were released with an advert for label Vee-Jay Records upcoming releases.

Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Russell Brand will perform a cover version of The Beatles 'I Am A Walrus' during the Olympic Games opening ceremony next week.
