Muse have been offered the chance to run a Westcountry hometown for a day, after the band carried the Olympic torch across Shaldon Bridge in Teignmouth.

As well as carrying the torch, Muse have also provided the Olympics with its official soundtrack with their new track, 'Survival'.

The offer to Muse to run the small area was made in a YouTube video, with Teignmouth council leader Jeremy Christopher discussing the invitation in the local press.

"As you’ll hear in the video I even took the opportunity to invite Muse to run the council for a day," says Christoper to This Is South Devon. "We’re not sure quite when schedules will allow it, but I’m really hopeful that we can make it happen and create a lasting legacy which will help involve local youngsters in their area and in politics.”

Speaking about their time carrying the Olympic torch, Matt Bellamy says: "It was amazing for us. We went to the Teignmouth school. We all met in that school and that's where the band started.

"We know this place like the back of our hand. Being on that bridge with our families there, holding the torch, it was an amazing feeling."

Bellamy also expressed an interest in performing in Teignmouth.

"We'd love to play down here as much as we can," he added. "I bet you, in ten years time to the day we'll be back in Teignmouth."
