22 July, 2012: The UK rock festival scene has suffered somewhat in 2012, with the cancellation of Sonisphere earlier in the year - and what were traditionally known as rock events boasting more mainstream line-ups than in previous years.
In the US however, things are very different. The rock and metal festival scene is very much alive - as the bands sharing at stage at this weekend's Mayhem Festival in Chicago goes to show.
There are few festivals anywhere that you are likely to find the rock and metal giants such as Slipknot, Slayer, Motorhead and Anthrax sharing the stage with more recently established acts such as As I Lay Dying and The Devil Wears Prada.
