A 7" single considered to be the rarest Beatles record in the United States has sold at auction for a massive $35,000.

The 1964 single, which includes the tracks 'Ask Me Why' and 'Anna' sold on 24 July. Only five of these records were ever produced, although reasons behind the extremely limited pressing of the record are uncertain. There was never a commercial release featuring these two tracks together.

A description of the record on UltimateBeatlesCollection.com reads: " The record was given out to a few Los Angeles radio stations in 1964 to test the market for the single." 

Classic and rare Beatles records and memorabilia have been making headlines this year with a number of items selling for extremely high prices, reveals online auction new site, WhatSellsBest.com.

A signed record sold for $24,675 and a promo for $19,586 on eBay earlier this year. A 'backwards' photo of the band's classic Abbey Road photo sold for $25,000 (£16,000) in May this year and in June a rare Cavern Club Beatles posted raised $42,515 at auction. In July a copy of the first released Beatles album sold for £14,999 and a 'vintage' Beatles album released on Vee-Jay records changed hands for £22,268.

It might be time to have a rummage through your dad's garage to see if he's sat on any classic Beatles records...
